Does this sound possible for a .44 Magnum?

I'm writing a story, and it has a man who is in deep depression, and plays Russian roulette with himself, and when the bullet is in the chamber and ready to fire, the gun malfunctions and doesn't fire at all. Does that sound like it is possible? I'm trying to keep it as realistic as possible.
